Andrew V. Lorenzen is a writer of fiction, screenplays, plays, and anything political or satirical. (These days, it’s hard to tell the difference.) He’s lived in Miami, Ithaca, New York City, London, and Edinburgh.

He graduated summa cum laude and as a Merrill Presidential Scholar from Cornell University. He then attained a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing (Fiction) from New York University where he was awarded a Global Research Initiative Fellowship to pursue research and writing in Prague. Lorenzen was named a 2024 Marshall Scholar in support of two postgraduate degrees in the United Kingdom. He graduated from the London School of Economics with an MSc in Politics and Communication in 2025 and is currently finishing another MSc in Narrative Futures: Art, Data, Society at the University of Edinburgh. (He promises he’s done with master’s degrees after those three.)

Lorenzen’s writing has been published by The Nation, The Baffler, Cleaver, L’Esprit Literary Review, The Miami Herald, and The Chronicle of Higher Education. His work has been awarded a Marvin Carlson Award and a Heermans-McCalmon Award. He was shortlisted for the 2026 Leopold Bloom Prize for Innovative Narration and named an Honorable Mention for the 2025 Cleaver Emerging Artists Award. His mother has said his writing is good.

He currently works as a legislative analyst for Fmr. Rep. Steve Israel. In addition he’s eagerly finishing up work on a historical fiction manuscript and revising a gaggle of short stories. Lorenzen is represented by agent Matthew Carnicelli. When not writing, he can be found either cheering or despairing at the results of Miami Hurricanes football games.
